In a 3 page paper, provide a brief description (1 paragraph for each)
of common quantitative and qualitative research designs.
Summarize the key elements and purpose of each design and use
the module readings to support your statements. Which of these
research designs is suitable to the problem you identified in Module
1 and why? Consider making this document a useful reference tool
for you as you develop the Doctoral Study.
Research Designs
● Quantitative: Experimental design (true experiment,
quasi-experiment) and non-experimental design (Causal
comparative and correlation).
● Qualitative: Narrative, case study, ethnographic,
phenomenological, and grounded theory.
Next, using the article you selected for Case 3:
● Identify the research methodology and design of the article.
○ Remember, methodology is qualitative or
quantitative – and design is more specific (e.g.,
phenomenology, correlation or case study).
● Summarize the sampling, data collection, and data analysis
methods of each article and describe how these elements may
differ based on the study’s methodology (quantitative vs.
qualitative).
