Case studies are an essential learning strategy in business classes as they allow you to analyze events that have taken place in real-life businesses critically. You will also develop your critical thinking and research skills as you research the competition and industry in which your business resides to formulate a recommendation.

You will develop the case study analysis for the executive team regarding corporate issues/challenges and your recommendations. At a minimum, your case study analysis should include the following items.

  • Problem(s)/opportunities of the company with details: This should include multiple organizational topics, including, but not exclusively, motivating internal employees.
  • Potential solutions (three to five) for the problem(s) along with multiple strengths/weaknesses of each: This should include an explanation of how key international aspects impact the problems and, ultimately, the business.
  • Recommendations including strong detailed rationale: Select at least one, but not all, of your potential alternatives. This should include an analysis of processes that influence the control and management of the organization.
  • Implementation of the recommendation: This should include an explanation of how you will implement the recommendation with professional and ethical integrity.

This assignment asks you to review and analyze the “Netflix” case study on pp. C-140 of your textbook and respond to the following questions using both theory and practical managerial thinking.

For this assignment, develop a 1–2-page double-spaced analysis that answers the following questions.

    1. Are the combined impacts of these driving forces likely to be favorable or unfavorable in terms of their effects on competitive intensity and future industry profitability?
  2. Describe what your strategic group map of the industry looks like as of 2020.
    1. How attractively is Netflix positioned on the map? Why?
  3. Discuss your concerns about Netflix’s situation, given the financial data contained in case Exhibits 2, 3, 6, and 7.
  4. Analyze Netflix’s competitive strength and how it compares to other streaming rivals profiled in the case.
    1. Develop a weighted competitive strength assessment of Netflix against two or three other rivals you deem most likely to challenge Netflix for global leadership.
      1. Use the methodology presented in Table 4.4 in Chapter 4 of the textbook to support your answer.
      2. Develop a list of the industry’s key success factors and other telling measures of competitive strength or weakness.
      3. Assign weights to each of the measures of competitive strength based on their perceived importance.
      4. Calculate weighted strength by scoring each competitor on each strength measure.
      5. Use a 1-to-10 rating scale, where 1 is very weak, and 10 is very strong. and then multiply the assigned rating by the assigned weight.
      6. Sum the weighted strength ratings on each factor to get an overall measure of competitive strength for each company being rated.
  5. Use the overall strength ratings to draw conclusions about the size and extent of the company’s net competitive advantage or disadvantage.
    1. Take specific note of areas of strength and weakness.
  6. References and citations:
    1. Provide at least two quality resources from the Strayer Library and/or outside sources.Note: Wikipedia and Web-based blogs do not qualify as credible resources.
