Detail the police responses to mental health crises with respect to the various behaviors associated with mental disorders and substance abuse. Acknowledging that some of these behaviors are criminal and potentially place the public, officers, and individuals in crisis at risk, should law enforcement approach these situations from a law enforcement or a service provider perspective (

)? Why? With the limited options available, do you consider law enforcement the appropriate institution for initial contact with those in crisis? Why or why not, and if not, then whom? Since we currently have few alternatives, how might exposure to these crises affect officers? Lastly, what are your thoughts on crisis intervention teams and involving non-law enforcement officers in potentially dangerous situations?
