· Revise each slide you have already completed in the milestone submissions, incorporating the feedback you have received from your instructor.
·
Add the following slides to your final presentation:
· Slide 7: “Effectiveness” (Critical Element V below)
· Slide 8: “Recommendations” (Critical Element VI below)
· Slide 10: “References”
· Include clear explanations of all the critical elements in the speaker notes of the presentation slides. If you have not done so already, delete the existing text in the template and replace it with your own.
Remember, you do not have to deliver this presentation. You are simply preparing the presentation you might use if you were to present.
Specifically, the following
critical elements must be addressed:
I.
Describe Artifact: In this slide, you will include a picture of your artifact and provide a brief description of it.
II.
Design Decisions: In this section of your presentation, you will analyze your artifact for determining the design decisions that were made when creating it.
A.
Audience: Describe the intended
audience of your selected artifact, including social considerations (e.g., race, age, gender, educational background, economic status, etc.) and cultural considerations (e.g., taboos, values, subject knowledge, etc.) that may affect how your artifact is received.
B.
Design Elements: Analyze the
design elements present in your artifact. For instance, you could consider aspects such as color, word choices, background, texture, line, font, etc.
III.
Messaging: In this section, you will identify the intended and unintended messages that are portrayed by your artifact.
A.
Intended message: What are the
intended messages that the artifact is trying to convey? In responding to this question, consider the persuasive concepts that were used, why they were used, and the intended meanings and emotions portrayed. Include the features of your artifact contributing to the message.
B.
Unintended message: What are the
unintended messages conveyed by the artifact? Support your reasoning with examples from features of your artifact contributing to the message.
IV.
Bias and Perception: In this section, you will describe the role that bias plays in your artifact.
A. Explain the influence of
corporate bias on the message. What are the corporate biases present in your artifact? How do these biases influence the way the intended and unintended messages are presented?
B. Based on the social and cultural considerations you identified for your audience, identify possible
perceptions the audience could bring to viewing the artifact.
C. Explain how these perceptions might
impact your audience’s understanding of the artifact.
V.
Effectiveness: In this section, you will evaluate whether the message was effectively conveyed to your audience and how the design decisions you identified earlier influence the way the message is perceived.
A. Analyze the effectiveness of the artifact at conveying its intended messages to the
audience. Did the artifact portray what was intended? Are there any areas of the intended message that were ineffective? Was the artifact effective in reaching the intended audience? Make sure you provide examples from your artifact to support your point.
B. Analyze the effectiveness of the
design decisions for conveying the intended message. Make sure you provide examples from your artifact to support your point.
VI.
Recommendations: In this section of your presentation, you will provide recommendations for improving the artifact’s effectiveness in conveying messages. When writing your response, justify your choices with examples from research and consider the following questions:
A. Describe how different
design elements could be used to mitigate the unintended messages.
B. Describe what
tools and technology could be used to recreate the artifact and make it more effective.
C. Propose
strategies for accounting for the social and cultural considerations of your audience to mitigate the impact that bias has on the perception of the messages.
D. Create a graphic that
illustrates the relationship between creators and consumers of media artifacts.
E. Provide an
explanation of the graphic you created representing the relationship between creators and consumers of media. How does the blurred line between consumption and creation of an artifact impact messaging and interpretation of media?
F. Reflect on your
own role as a consumer and producer of media. How do you participate in the consumption and creation of media?
Consumption and Production of Media: In this section, you will reflect on your role as a consumer and producer of media and determine the extent to which it influences the perception of an artifact.
