Understanding the different elements of language (i.e., phonetics, phonology, morphology, lexicon, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics) will help you comprehend the rules involved in learning a language.
Part 1: Elements of Language in ELD
Create a graphic organizer (chart or diagram) that defines the following elements of language in ELD:
Phonetics
Phonology
Morphology
Syntax
Lexicon
Pragmatics
In your graphic organizer you should:
Provide a detailed example for each element of language.
Explain why each element of language is vital to an English learner’s success in language proficiency.
Part 2: Second Language Acquisition
Create a separate graphic organizer that provides information on two topics:
The stages of second language acquisition
The different theories of language acquisition
The organizer should outline the stages of second language acquisition (i.e. Pre-production, Early Production, etc.) . Provide a detailed example for each stage of second language acquisition that demonstrates the characteristics of English learners.
In your graphic organizer you should also describe the different theories of language acquisition (behaviorist, innatist, interactionist).
Then, explain which theoretical perspective(s) you favor, and why.
Format your sources according to APA guidelines.
