Discussion: Drafting Your Research Area Primer Due Sep 25 by midnight
Purpose
This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:
· Develop research questions and assertions.
· Outline a structure for a literature review.
Overview
To prepare for this assignment, review:

The
Research Area Primer
assignment in Module 8. The outline you develop in this module will be the basis of your Research Area Primer assignment in Module 8.
·
The sample topical outline in Galvan & Galvan (2017), Chapter 9, Example 9.3.1. This sample provides guidance on what topical outlines typically include.
Develop your discussion post in a Word document. It should include the following:

A topical outline. You may have more material for certain sections than others. Include:
· A fully-developed introduction.
· At least three sections related to at least three themes in your field.
· A conclusion.
·
One developed section of the outline. Include:
· A one-paragraph discussion of the theme or trend. This theme may have emerged as you completed the
Discussion: Research Question assignment in the previous module. Be sure to discuss scholars in as much depth as is required and in relation to one another. You should position scholars in conversation with one another (e.g., Smith echoes Jones in X way). Some sources are more important than others and require 3-5 sentences. Others should just be mentioned in a brief phrase/citation.
· An annotation for a specific source that adheres to the annotation guidelines provided in the Discussion: Research Question assignment. This could be the annotation you already developed in that assignment, or an annotation for a different source.
· A source table that attends to some aspect of a given trend in the field. See Galvin & Galvin (2017). Specifically, review Chapter 8, tables 8.1.1., 8.1.2., 8.2.1, and 8.3.1.
·
A reference list. You should have a total of 15-17 sources at this point.
Action Items
1. By the due date indicated, make your initial post according to the instructions and requirements described in the Overview.
2. By Sunday, respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts. Your response should contribute to the scholarly conversation. Consider any of the following:
a. Is your peer’s outline clear and coherent? If not, how might things be clarified, rearranged, and restructured?
b. Does their source table help you see the trends in the field in a clear way? If so, what did your peer do to facilitate clarity? If not, how might the table be improved?
c. Is the one-paragraph discussion of theme or trend clear and comprehensive? How might your peer develop this paragraph further for the final primer
