Education Assignment 1

Directions: Submit a description of your topic by addressing the specific criteria listed below.

Begin by setting up your paper in
APA format. Be sure to use a
heading for each of the criteria in the assignment (i.e., context, community, school, topic, topic rationale and supporting data, and research ethics).

Create a
title page using the format provided in the syllabus Appendix A or in the APA and Writing Module.

Describe the
context (setting): The
community (rural) and its demographics (Race: 98.5% of students are African American, 1% are Hispanic, and 0.5% are multiracial, Gender: 48% of students are female and 52% are male) and economics, (100% of students are economically disadvantaged); and The
school (elementary) and its enrollment (252 students), demographics, and economics (free/reduced lunch).

Be sure that the community and school remain anonymous. Use
pseudonyms for both the community and school and also for their citations and references. Under the references, you may use the phrase “name withheld to protect anonymity” in lieu of the reference source (e.g., website link).

Identify your proposed
topic (Cognitive Retention) also known as learning loss(see “Illustrative Action Research Topics” in Lochmiller & Lester, 2017, p. 242) and supporting data (in table format).

Describe your
topic rationale by explaining how it aligns with the school improvement plan, district, or agency goals. This is an expansion of what you wrote for Part A. Include a data table, if applicable.

Explain how you are demonstrating
research ethics with the proposed topic (Lochmiller & Lester, 2017, chapter 4). Show clear connections to a professional and/or state code(s) of ethics, and the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Ethical Principles Guiding Research Practices (Lochmiller & Lester, 2017, p. 69).

Cite and reference your work as appropriate. Remember to use pseudonyms when citing and referencing information in the context section so that your community and school remain anonymous.
