Assignment 3 – Additional language learning through apps (25 points)

An essential part of learning to work with English language learners is to understand some of the processes in learning a new language. Therefore, you will be learning a new language of your choice on at least two different apps. On one of the language learning apps, such as Mango, Duolingo, Babbel or Memrise, you will learn the language in a gamified environment. On the other app, HiNative, you will be interacting with native speakers of the languages, as well as assisting English language learners with their language questions. You will have the opportunity to post cultural questions to the HiNative app community whose language you are learning

On HiNative, you will be learning the language and correcting short written passages and/or audio clips from English learners. You will be expected to log 1-2 hours a week learning this language and providing feedback to English learners on HiNative. At the end of the course, you will write a 5-page essay on your experience learning the new language and interacting with English learners. Discuss differences and similarities between the new language and English as well as cultural insights you have gleaned from the experience. In addition to the essay, provide at least ten (10) screenshots of:

1. your own learning of the language

2. interactions with language partners who assisted you in learning the additional language

3. interactions with English learners you assisted
