Assignment 3 -PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to define parent involvement mechanisms and barriers to school involvement.
Directions:
1. Given what you have learned from the required readings and videos, you will develop a debate representing two different views of parents.
2. One view will represent parents that are predominantly responsible for the education of their children and that teachers play a supportive role in the students’ education.
3. The second view will represent that teachers are predominantly responsible for the education of their students and that parents play a supportive role in their child’s education.
4. Conduct a written debate representing both sides. This means you will not be giving your opinion but reasons supporting why parents would feel both ways. This debate should have two viewpoints and be at least one page long.
5. Be sure to reference the readings and/or videos to support your statements.
***Remember, the purpose of this assignment is to argue both sides from a neutral standpoint. It should not include your personal opinion.

ASSIGNMENT 5 – FAMILY STRUCTURE
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to identify and understand the different types of family structures and to learn how to collaborate and communicate with them.
Directions:
1. Think about the readings and videos. Reflect on the family structure and on the goals, values, respect, styles of communication and cultural influences on collaboration. Summarize your understanding of the course content.
2. To complete this activity, you will use
Voki, a Web-based tool that enables you to create an avatar and use it to
communicate your message. Follow the steps below.
1. Go to
Voki Website (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to access the tool. Establish a free account by clicking on the
Register button
2. Click on the
Create tab.
3. In the
Customize your character block, choose a character, and add clothes, etc. Click
done when finished.
4. Communicate your message by giving your avatar a voice! Use one of the options listed within the
Give it a Voice block. Click
done.
5. Select a background and click
done.
6. Click on the
play button of the Voki player to preview your message!
7. When you are pleased with the result, click on the
Publish button and give your message a title.
8. Look for the
Get your Voki link here text, and select standard Voki link. Copy that link and paste in a word document and upload it in the assignment dropbox.
