CCEMS is a county department funded by taxpayer dollars collected through the county assessed general levy and dispersed through the general operations budget.
A lieutenant working for CCEMS approaches you to talk about an external job offer she recently received. She shares with you that a large private for-profit ambulance service has offered her a district chief position. The position is classified as exempt and includes a salaried compensation package exceeding $100,000 annually. She will be required to work a 24-on/48-off schedule with an average work week of 56 hours. The lieutenant asks if you could explain the difference between exempt and nonexempt and if she will qualify for overtime as a salaried, exempt employee.
