For this assignment, you will choose a movie or a series that relates to psychology and write an expository paper describing the signs and symptoms of the psychological disorder presented. Please see the Unit 9 Movie List for suggestions. You may choose a movie or series that is not on this list; however, please request approval from your instructor prior to completing the assignment.

Please use the Unit 9 Assignment Template to guide you through writing a cohesive paper. Your paper should be 2–3 pages, not including the title and reference pages, and must address each of the following:

  • Explain what is meant by the term “psychological disorder.”
  • What is the role of the DSM-5-TR in regard to psychological disorders?
  • Identify the character in the movie whom you believe has a psychological disorder.
  • Describe the symptoms of the identified disorder that you see in the movie.
    • Please refer to your text and/or the DSM-5-TR for help in describing the symptoms.
  • Discuss whether or not the portrayal of the mental illness in the movie is realistic based on the DSM-5-TR symptoms, along with your text reading.
  • Locate a peer-reviewed article from the Purdue Global Library that relates to the disorder illustrated in the movie (published within the past 10 years).
  • Identify a therapy technique that could be helpful to this person and explain what theory that technique comes from.
  • Describe ethical considerations that should be kept in mind when treating this individual.

Your assignment should be a 2- to 3-page paper, not including the title and reference pages, and should include the following elements:

  • Title page: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
  • Body: Answer all the questions in complete sentences and paragraphs.
    • The assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose.
    • Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct and accurate, and reflect knowledge of skills and practice of the profession.
    • The communication of your thoughts must be highly ordered, logical, and unified, displaying exceptional content, organization, style, and mechanics (including the use of correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure).
  • Reference page: Sources listed in current APA format.
    • Include a minimum of two scholarly or academic sources from the PG Library to support your responses and conclusions. One should be your text (or the DSM-5-TR), and the other should be a peer-reviewed journal article from the Purdue Global Library.
  • Use Arial or Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, left-aligned.
  • Use standard 1″ margins on all sides.
  • Use current APA formatting and citation style
