Throughout this course, you will be designing a Counseling Group from start to finish. The Counseling Group will be broken into four separate assignments over the span of this course:
Designing a Counseling Group Part One: Group Selection (this assignment)
Designing a Counseling Group Part Two: Brochure (due Topic 4)
Designing a Counseling Group Part Three: Screening Questions (due Topic 5)
Designing a Counseling Group Part Four: Managing Sensitive Topics in Group Therapy (due Topic 6).
For this week you will complete Part One: Group Selection. Choose from the following group types:
o Children of divorce
o Children of addicts
o Adult Survivors of abuse (could be sexual or physical)
o Treatment for adults who are addicts
o Grief recovery
o Teens struggling with gender dysphoria (sexual identity)
o Teen support group (parents who are addicts)
o Relationship building (homosexual and heterosexual – there does not have to be a division because a group is a group)
o Domestic violence group for nonoffenders
o Parenting group
Identify what type of group you will design by selecting one of the group types listed above.
Write a 300-600-word summary of your selected group.
Be sure to include the following in your summary:
o Group type
o Why you chose this type of group and what need this group fills in your community.
o Population serving
o Number of sessions
o Number of participants
o Goals of the counseling group
o A minimum of two scholarly references, not including the course textbook
Submit Group Design Part 1 to the instructor by the end of Topic 2.
