Group Project: Visual Communication Presentation

What is an Infographic?

An infographic showcases numerical data, statistics, and other content typically in a single page image. It condenses this information in a quick and easy-to-understand manner using graphics and visuals along with concise text and numbers.  Many public relations and marketing professionals use infographics as a way to communicate specific information to various audiences.

Tips to Create an Infographic

1. Review the following examples of infographics on pages 2-3 of this document collected from various healthcare organizations to familiarize yourself with design elements and components common to infographics.

2. Determine the topic, purpose/goal, and target audience for your infographic to guide your design choices and to help you with focusing your research.

3. Research this topic using credible and reliable sources to inform your content.

4. Choose a variety of visuals and symbols to convey your infographic story. Remember, you likely will not use a lot of words as you would when writing a paper, but instead should use a combination of words, images, symbols, numbers, and potentially graphs.

5. Provide APA-formatted in-text citations and full references in the infographic for all sources used. (These should be readable but may be in smaller text so as to not distract from the overall design.)

6. Choose an infographic creation tool to quickly and easily complete your project. Many of these tools offer templates and free symbols, images, and other design elements to use! Check out this resource to explore
free, user-friendly, infographic tools and helpful strategies.

Important Note on Selecting an Infographic Tool

You are not restricted in your choice of technology to create the infographic. However, you will want to ensure that your tool of choice offers editable templates and an option to download your finished infographic as a PDF or image file.

Recommended websites that offer these features with free accounts include Canva.com, Piktochart.com, Snappa.com, Adobe Spark.
