  • You will watch a film that is related to the issues of development and developmental psychology. The film should focus on a particular period of development or a transition between periods (Ex: Adolescence-Early Adulthood).
  • You may pick any movie that you would like that is appropriate for this class. Possible examples are: Look Who’s Talking, Boss Baby, Three Men and a Baby (infancy), Turning Red, The Breakfast Club, Juno (adolescence), Failure to Launch, Good Will Hunting, Knocked Up (emerging adulthood), The Bucket List, Grumpy Old Men, Tuesdays with Morrie (Late Adulthood).
  • This paper should be no less than 5 pages in length, not including title and reference pages. The paper will be broken into three parts. Most of your paper should be devoted to the second part, applying the course material to the film.
  • Part 1: Provide a brief synopsis of the movie in your own words (around 1 page).
  • Part 2: Apply the concepts and theories covered in this class to the film (around 3-5 pages). The following are some examples:
    • Explain what developmental theories can be applied to this movie and the main character.
    • Explain what other influences such as peers or family members in the film have on the main character.
    • Explain how context (e.g., culture, SES, neighborhood) influences the main character.
  • Part 3: Provide a brief concluding paragraph summarizing your thoughts on the film and how it relates to class (around 1 page).
  • You will be required to adhere to APA formatting including an appropriate title page and reference page. An abstract is not needed.
  • Paper should include a minimum of five references (your textbook and your media choice can be two of them).
  • Correct grammar and punctuation are expected. Please refrain from using abbreviations, conjunctions, or slang terms.
  • General Paper Guidelines & Requirements: The paper should be written in APA format (Times New Roman; font size: 12; double-spaced; 1-inch margins) with appropriate in-text citations and complete references and title pages.
