Paper Topic Feedback [WLOs: 1, 3, 4] [CLOs: 1, 2, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, please read Chapters 1 and 2 from your textbook and the following resources:

  • Actual Causes of Death in the United States, 2000Links to an external site.

In this discussion, you will propose three topics for your final paper for this course, Review of Theoretical Interventions. Additionally, you will provide formative feedback to several peers on their final paper topic selections. Since you are providing feedback on their assignment, try to make both your initial and final posts early to maximize the benefit to your classmates.

In your first post, propose three health disparity topics that resonate for you and that you would consider as topics for your final paper. To be a good topic, each proposed topic should be:

  • caused by a behavioral determinant(s) such as physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, tobacco use, too much alcohol, or risky sexual behavior, etc. (For additional support, access the Healthy People 2030: Browse ObjectivesLinks to an external site. resource.),
  • narrow enough to have a single or modest number of causes,
  • broad enough to be significant to the affected population, and
  • important to you.

For each of the three topics that satisfy the preceding criteria, write one paragraph that includes answers to the following questions:

  • Which populations are most affected?
  • What do you think are the most significant underlying causes of this disparity (e.g., health behaviors, social determinants, etc.), and how could you ameliorate the disparity?
  • Which level of prevention (i.e., primary, secondary, or tertiary) is most appropriate and why?
  • How can theory help you better understand and address the health disparity?
  • Why does this subject interest you, and why do you want to find answers?
