INSTRUCTIONS
Introduce Yourself: The Finale! Due on Apr 19, 2026 11:59
All posts and replies are due by the time and date specified on the ENC 1102 Syllabus.
For your final discussion board, I would like to insure that you are thinking about/working on your argumentative video essay.
Again, I would like to post only the first (introductory) paragraph from the script of your upcoming argument video essay. Again, this will give me the opportunity to look over your writing and provide feedback that will help you when continuing your essay writing. If you need a reminder about the essay’s assignment details, they are available here: Argument Video Essay.
As a reminder, when writing your paragraph, remember that an effective introduction should 1) grab the reader’s attention with an engaging opening statement (i.e., hook), 2) provide the audience with any necessary background information and/or preview the main points of the essay, and 3) state the essay’s overall thesis. In addition, don’t forget that the thesis for your argument essay must do more than simply state your stance on the topic (i.e., whether you are for or against it). Your thesis must explain what it is that you want to happen/change to help resolve the issue you have identified.
Note: Because this assignment doesn’t follow the traditional style as previous discussions, there will be no penalty if your post does not meet the minimum word requirement specified in the Discussion Rubric. That being said, make sure that your introductory paragraph fulfills all the necessary steps, using well-developed ideas and clear, soundly-constructed sentences.
EXAMPLE
Nostalgia has influenced many productions, both in film and video games over the last decade, as evidenced by numerous remakes, reboots, sequels, and remastered versions of older productions. Instead of investing their time and capital into creating new and original content, the majority of companies in today’s film and video game industry are using nostalgia to create new versions of previous established characters, stories, and worlds that are easily recognized by their audience base. For example, Disney’s remake of The Lion King was created using the same basic concept as its animated version but rendered using photographic realism while keeping the same characters and plot. A similar example is the remake of the video game Resident Evil 4, which was released in 2005, and used the same basic premise as the original but modified the way its story was presented to make it relevant for today’s gaming audience while keeping the same characters and scenarios. This tendency is not a coincidence. It indicates a more psychological and cultural trend of the ways people relate with the media and the way they are drawn towards what they know. The influence of nostalgia is so strong today that moviemakers and video game designers constantly rely on it to enhance emotional appeal, since it creates emotional connection and comfort for audiences; however, the constant reuse of content can become an obstacle to creativity and the quality of productions.
