. While completing the scale, focus on a real-life workplace relationship
(can be a manager or boss, coworker, subordinate/someone you lead or
customer/client) that is important to you. If you do not have a real-life
workplace relationship that is important to you, then focus on a business or
professional relationship. The key here is to understand your social style in
the context of business and professional communication.
In your essay, you will first discuss your results from both assessment tools.
What social style are you? What are the characteristics of your social style?
Provide personal examples that demonstrate how your communication
behaviors (your results from the personal report of communication
apprehension) reflect the social style you are characterized as. Do you in
any way disagree with the social style you have been characterized as? If
so, discuss why and provide examples that demonstrate how your
behaviors don’t fit your assigned social style.
Next, revisit the Identifying Your Social Style and, to the best of your ability,
assess the social style of the other person. What is his or her social style?
If his or her social style is different from yours, provide a brief description of
his or her social style. Provide examples that demonstrate how his or her
behaviors fit with this assigned social style.

for relating to this particular person based on the type of relationship you
have with each other– your manager, your coworker, your employees or
those you lead, or customers/clients — present an analysis of the
communicative behaviors that characterize your relationship. Make sure to
provide examples of the communicative behaviors present in your
relationship. Would you characterize your relationship as successful?
Explain why or why not?
How, if at all, can you improve your relationship with this person based on
what you have learned about social styles and skills for relating to this type
of person (your manager, your coworker, your employees or those you
lead, or customers/clients)?
Format:
● Use Times New Roman or Arial font, 12-point size, double-space
entire essay, include page numbers
● Be sure to use section headers (and sub-headers if necessary) to
highlight the question being addressed
● Set margins to 1 inch (top, bottom, left, right)
