Community Outreach: Post Summary on discussion board; (10 pts; 5 pts for

To explore the aging population in Portland (or your local community), please do one of
the following activities or create one of your own and pass it by me for approval. This
activity will entail 2-3 hours of time that may be counted toward your total time in the
community. Select option below. Compare your experience to your experience at
your main volunteer location (or online sites). Address how socioeconomic
disparities, ethnic & racial disparities and/or healthcare disparities may impact a
person’s ability to choose to use the resources you explored in your community
outreach assignment? In addition, please comment on at least 1 of your
colleagues posts for full assignment credit.
Option 1: **Modified: This term the likelihood of being able to enter nursing homes or
care centers is getting better! You can arrange in person visits or you can go online and
review 2 websites of care facilities and compare and contrast the sites to share with the
class. Tell us about your impressions of the homes based on their web presence. What
was the environment like? (be descriptive–lighting, paint on walls, pictures,
rooms-shared? 2 or 3 to a room, able to have personal belongings in rooms? Activities?
home-like? designated room for families to visit in? staff ratio if available, how much
does it cost to live there?) Compare and contrast to a 2nd site or to your experience this
