i need help with my project
Project 1 targets improving lifeguard training in NYC public pools, specifically in the NYC Parks and Recreation Department. The goal is to streamline lifeguard readiness and response more effectively through modern training methods.
I am suggesting the implementation of VR simulations, surprise emergency drills, and upgraded first aid training. VR technology will allow lifeguards to practice high-stress rescue scenarios in a safe and controlled setting. Surprise emergency drills will also keep lifeguards alert, while upgraded trauma response training will equip them to handle serious medical emergencies well.
These technologies will make training more effective, improve lifeguards’ emergency response time, and overall make NYC pools safer. Implementing these changes in pilot areas like John Jay Pool and Astoria Park Pool can be a model for expanding citywide. Partnering with local hospitals and emergency response teams could provide hands-on medical training to further improve lifeguard preparedness. The project I’m proposing focuses on improving lifeguard training at NYC public pools which are managed by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Aquatics Division.
Proposed Innovation:
To enhance lifeguard training, I propose three key innovations:
- Virtual Reality (VR) Training – Provides immersive emergency simulations which will provide better situational awareness and reaction time.
- EMILY Robotic Buoy – A remote-controlled rescue device that reaches distressed swimmers faster, reducing lifeguard risk.
- Advanced Training Manikins – Realistically simulate drowning victims, improving hands-on rescue practice.
Departmental Benefits:
These innovations will essentially improve and increase response efficiency, improve lifeguard preparedness, and enhance overall water safety by taking advantage of modern training techniques.
