For this extra credit opportunity, you need to conduct research on the use of AI transcription tools (particularly the tool
Whisper) in our current healthcare environment and answer the following questions (200 words minimum):
1. Write a short summary of your findings. Imagine you have been tasked with sharing this information with leadership – you want to keep it brief and address the key issues (who, what, where, when, how…..and WHY is this important to us?). Include links to two articles that you could share with leadership (you don’t need to fully cite, just the url and title of article is fine for this assignment).
2. Write a personal reflection.
Possible ideas to discuss: If you already work in healthcare, what is your facility’s level of use of AI tools? Have you seen this already on the news? Are you concerned? Would you be ok with this as a patient? What are some legal/ethical implications? Do you think AI should be used for this type of function? How about other functions besides transcription?
Peer response: Respond to a peer’s reflection OR an instructor’s question, and provide a substantive reply. Simple agreement or praise does not count as substantive, you need to continue the conversation (ask a question, critique, compare views respectfully, etc.). (50 words minimum)
Grading: Posts must meet minimum word count, be in own words, and demonstrate effort. Initial post is worth 10 points. Peer responses are worth 2 points each, max of 5 peer responses. This extra credit opportunity is worth a total of 20 points.
