it’s for my term paper it’s my huge grade, it’s basically about PTSD , the treatments the diagnostic and what it is and the different types, and it has to be 5 pages and i have to use apa format and dsm-v is a required reference:

Term Paper Requirements (Combined Summary)

DSM-V Special Required Reference

Some students may choose term paper topics related to mental health, such as:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Alcoholism or Drug Dependence(and similar disorders)

If you select a mental health–related topic and it is approved, you are required to use a specific reference in your paper:

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V)American Psychiatric Association, 5th Edition

The DSM-V is considered the gold standard for diagnosing mental illnesses. You are expected to:

  • Make good use of information from the DSM-V

  • Use it as the foundation of your paper

  • Integrate additional sources alongside it

You are not required to accept the DSM-V as “ultimate truth,” but you must use it as the basis of your discussion.

Failure to use the DSM-V or to include relevant DSM-V information will negatively affect your grade.

If you are unsure whether this requirement applies to your topic, you must contact the instructor for clarification. The responsibility to confirm this is yours.

General Paper Requirements

  • One-inch margins

  • 12-point font

  • Paper must contain at least five (5) references

  • Wikipedia and WebMD may NOT be used as references

  • No more than two purely internet sources(e.g., Ask Dr. Phil, Jeeves, etc.)

  • The textbook may NOT count as one of the 5 required references(It may be used as an additional or 6th reference)

  • Staple pages together

  • Your name must be on each page

  • Some topics may require additional references listed in a separate document

  • At the end of the instructions, there is a blue table that must be copied and pasted into the references page

Grading Guidelines – Introductory Section (10%)

The introductory section is worth 10% of the total grade.

Your introduction should:

  • Clearly state what the paper will be about

  • Explain how the paper will be organized

  • Be written in the future tense

  • Identify the major areas the paper will cover

  • If relevant, explain why you selected the topic

A Strong Introduction Includes:

  1. A general statement about the topic

  2. A brief mention of 2–3 key issues that will be discussed in the body

  3. Proper citations where appropriate

  4. Minimal spelling and grammar errors

Example (Mental Health Topic)

This paper will be about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a disorder of attention and behavior commonly found in children (APA, 2013). I chose this topic because my younger brother has been diagnosed with ADHD and I am interested in learning more about it.

I will discuss how ADHD is diagnosed by psychologists and psychiatrists using DSM-V criteria, how it is treated through medication and behavior therapy, and how it affects school performance and family functioning.
