Over the course of three weeks, each office layout was assigned for one week, during which employees experienced three levels of ambient noise: Low, Moderate, and High, regulated by background sound systems. Throughout each workday, productivity was assessed by measuring the hourly output of lines of code written.

Half of the students study in a single 3-hour session, while the other half study in three 1-hour sessions. All students experience three different teaching methods over the course of three weeks (Week 1 = Lecture-based, Week 2 = Interactive, Week 3 = Self-study). Each week, each student’s test scores are measured.

To measure the effect of both diet and sleep on stress levels, a researcher asks 20 participants to record their stress levels at the end of a week during which they followed a normal diet. Each participant then records their stress levels at the end of the following week, during which they followed a low-carb diet. The same procedure is followed for the next two weeks, except participants are required to sleep for exactly 8 hours each night in one week and 6 hours each night in the other week.

A. What is the research design? (e.g., between, within, or mixed design)

B. What is the design format of the study? (e.g., 2 X 2, 3 X 2)

C. What are the independent variables?

D. Please indicate whether each independent variable is a between-subjects factor or a within-subjects factor.
