lifespan project 1

Lifespan Project (Part 1)

Instructions

In this project, you will be using the knowledge that you are gaining about developmental milestones throughout the lifespan and relating them to your own experiences to get an even more personalized view of how the course directly relates to you.

This assignment is divided up into 3 parts with 3 different due dates, but all 3 parts will count towards your 1 project grade (worth 140pts). If you miss the due date for Part 1 or Part 2, you can still get partial credit by turning these parts in by the Part 3 due date. Ten points will be deducted for each week the assignment is late, and all parts MUST be submitted by the Part 3 due date, as this is the final due date for the entire project.

Part 1

·
Infancy

·
Toddlerhood

·
Early Childhood

Part 2

· Middle Childhood

· Adolescence

· Emerging Adulthood

Part 3

· Young Adulthood

· Middle Adulthood

· Late Adulthood

Everyone in the course has experienced the developmental stages in Part 1 of this assignment, and this project will allow you to write about what you have learned and relate it to your experiences growing up. Because you will not remember some stages and only parts of others, you should ask someone who knew you during these developmental stages. (

All questions must be thoroughly answered, as you will lose points if you say that you do not know or do not remember.
)

As we move into emerging adulthood (in Part 2) through late adulthood (in Part 3), some students may have yet to experience one or more of these developmental stages; therefore,

realistic, hypothetical experiences, based on future aspirations and how you envision your life unfolding, should be used for any stage that you have not yet lived
. Even if things do not go as planned or plans change, this is an opportunity for you to set goals for your future (and work towards achieving or modifying them), as you describe stages in Parts 2 or 3 that you have not yet experienced.

If there is a rare reason that you cannot complete this assignment using yourself (for example, you are not able to ask your parents/family/caregivers about your early life experiences or they do not remember, you don’t feel comfortable sharing about yourself, etc.), you can use someone else for the entire project with the approval of the instructor, as long as your participant is currently an adolescent or older (so please be sure to contact the instructor right away if you need this option).

If another person is used, that person must be used for the entire project
, and they must have access to someone who can share their early life experiences they do not remember.

For each of the 9 life stages
being explored in this project, you will be addressing

physical

cognitive
, and

emotional and social milestones
, as outlined in the book. Under each milestone in each stage, you should:

·

first identify and describe, in detail, 3 or more facts about the milestone (citing research from reliable sources, like the textbook).

·

then explain, in detail, 1 or more personal experiences that you had related to development in that stage, using what you know or have learned about your past
. If you wish, you can include pictures or images, information relevant to your culture, or other information that enhances what you are sharing.

Please note that

each of your answers should contain at least 1 well-written paragraph, not just a few bullet points, thoroughly answering the question posed.
The more thorough your answers are, the better your chances are for earning points. Remember, writing is expected to be part of every course in the Creative and Liberal Arts department and therefore, will be considered for all assignments, so please use complete sentences, paying special attention to grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Please let me know if you have any questions, as I’m happy to help. Hope you enjoy this opportunity to relate what you are learning in class to your own life’s journey!

Part 2

Lifespan Project (Part 1) Reflections

Last week, you completed Part 1 of the Lifespan Project. This week, you will be sharing some of what you learned with your classmates. Please do the following by the end of this week:

1.
Complete an original posting sharing 2 things you learned about yourself (or your participant) and relate it to the information you learned about the developmental milestones to which they apply.

· Each posting should be
at least 2 paragraphs (with a minimum of 4 quality sentences per paragraph but preferably more) and should pertain to the developmental milestones you learned in class and the personal experiences you discussed relevant to those milestones. The more thorough your answers are, the better your chances are for earning points.

· You will not see your classmate postings until after you complete this first step.

2.
Read all of your classmates’ postings, choose at least 2 on which to comment, and click on the “Reply” button under each posting to do so.

· Each reply should be
at least 2 paragraphs (with a minimum of 4 quality sentences per paragraph but preferably more) and should be meaningful and appropriate and reflect on their ideas. The more thorough your answers are, the better your chances are for earning points.

· You (and your classmates) have the option of responding in a professional manner to all who replied to you, but these postings
do not count toward your required 2 classmate replies.

Hope you enjoy learning about each other’s experiences!
