  • Medical licensing ensures patient safety.Ensuring the medical professional meets requirements before practicing and guaranteeing a certain level of quality.Medical professionals must take required board testing to practice and follow state guidelines.Being in the dental field for years I have experienced one dentist who billed several procedures under the wrong codes for procedures for higher insurance payments. Billing a regular extraction as a surgical extraction is fraudulent and I have experienced several circumstances where the dentist would have front desk bills for the wrong procedures. This was  a red flag and the dentist was reported resulting in license suspension. I worked for another dentist who work was not the best or did he try to correct any work that obviously brought harm to a patient .Such as placing a filling incorrectly or leaving behind pieces of a tooth after an extraction.I worked in a hospital so I’ve seen a couple of things I knew were wrong and eventually resulted in revoked licensing.I plan to work my way in Healthcare management and ensure patient safety is completely safe and patients are receiving the proper care.I will ensure patients have the correct licensing and professionals that ensures patients are completely treated with the best quality.

First of all, how disheartening to read about physicians’ malpractice cases. Certainly, society has entrusted them literally with their lives. To breach this trust is unconscionable. Malpractice judgments against physicians may lead to temporary license loss, suspension, or permanent loss, revocation.

Ways to avoid these issues include being empathetic, compassionate, and prioritizing patient relationships. Having proper documentation and communication, and follow up, and complying with medical protocol and documentation that is relevant and thoughtful. A physician has a fiduciary duty of care. He must have continuing competence in his field.

Areas of negligence include misdiagnosis, failure to diagnose, error of unnecessary surgery or procedures, wrong body parts treated, dosage errors for medication, drug interactions not considered, allergies, birth injuries, lack of informed consent, sexual infringements, to name a few issues. Injury caused by breaching any of these trusted duties may result in a malpractice case.

One such suit, close to home, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, involved a 37-year-old man who was improperly followed after being diagnosed with hypertension by the treating physician. The patient’s symptoms were not properly address, which resulted in a hemorrhagic stroke. This left the patient with the inability to speak, unable to walk without help, and necessitating bathing care. There followed, after 9 years, a final judgment for just under 4 million dollars. The cost to that family in mental anguish cannot be measured. The case is online at 2019 Il, App (!st) 18-2433-U. DeAngello vs James A. Wilcox, D.O., and Advocate Health Partners a hospital organization. It was a lawsuit involving the hospital that the physician was a part of. I did not see that the physician was admonished with any removal of license issues. Also, I wonder under whose malpractice insurance this claim was adjudicated. Certainly, an individual physician most likely does not carry insurance that would be able to cover this incident.
