Job Application Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to practice using the job search resources provided by Career Services at GSU (e.g., O*Net, Handshake).

You will be required to locate TWO positions of employment in psychology or a related field that are of interest to you. These should be jobs you would be qualified for after you have earned your undergraduate degree (even if you are planning on attending graduate school).

Please note that you are NOT actually applying for these jobs; this assignment is designed to have you look at current job listings to see what will be available to you once you've graduated with your bachelor's degree.

You are required to submit the following materials in ONE Microsoft Word or PDF document. Please paste screenshots and links into the same document as your reflection essay:

  1. Screenshots of the actual TWO job advertisements AND working links to the jobs
    •  The screenshot must include the job description. Make sure we can easily read the ad!
    • You need to submit both a link AND a screenshot of both of the job ads to receive full credit. You will lose points for including only one of these.
    • You do not need to complete the full job application.
  2.  A 1-2 page essay indicating why these jobs interested you
    • Indicate the specific methods/ sites (e.g., Handshake) you used to find the job listings.
    • Discuss what type of jobs you were interested in and looking for.
    • Discuss the criteria you used to determine jobs that were interesting to you. For example: What were the criteria that concerned you the most regarding potential employers? Some criteria you might consider are geographic location, benefits, potential pay, duties, and how this job might relate to your long term career goals.
    • Remember, write in full sentences (no bullet points or quotes) and check for spelling and grammar.

This assignment is due by Monday, October 13th at 8:00am. This assignment is worth 20 points and will be distributed as described below: • Job ad 1: 3 points• Job ad 2: 3 points• Essay: 14 points

More thoughtful and thorough papers will receive more points. Missing information, typos, and grammar errors will all result in lost points. Note that the iCollege dropbox will only allow you to submit ONE document, so be sure all parts of your assignment are included in the one document you submit. Additionally, be sure that you submit either PDF or Word documents, no Pages, HEIC, or other file types will be accepted.
