Essay Prompt Questions: 

  1. Using Holloway’s scholarship, analyze three specific domains of African culture (e.g., food, music, family, religion, art, economics, agriculture, technology, etc.) that have been integrated into and shaped African American cultural practices and contributions.
  2. Using Holloway’s analysis, to examine how you personally benefit from the cultural practices that originated in African and African American traditions. Meaning, reflect on two specific personal examples with experiences on the cultural practice of African and African Americans, by highlighting how such influences and enrich your daily life.

Essay Guidelines

  • Length: Two full pages (excluding the bibliography).
  • Formatting: Refer to the “Writing Help” modules for proper essay formatting guidelines.
  • Footnotes: Include five Chicago-style footnotes throughout the essay.
  • Sources: Use a minimum of three different sources from the assigned materials.
  • Bibliography: Include a properly formatted bibliography on a separate page.

This essay requires careful attention to the assigned readings. View, read, analyze, and reflect deeply on how African American culture, as explored in Holloway’s work, has influenced your thinking and daily life.
