    Case Study
Apex Solutions is a fast-growing tech services company. You are the operations manager responsible for
regional performance reports. The CEO recently promised major bonuses for departments that exceed
their Q2 targets. A week before the deadline, you discover that a team member, Jenna, has inflated
service delivery metrics in your internal dashboard. Jenna claims she did it to “motivate the team” and
insists the numbers will be accurate by the final report deadline.
    But you know:

These inflated numbers have not yet been submitted to executives.
If corrected now, the team won’t hit its targets — jeopardizing everyone’s bonus.
    Jenna is a well-liked, top-performing employee.
Rumors suggest other departments might also be “adjusting” data — but nothing is confirmed.
The company has recently launched a formal ethics initiative, including a new Code of Conduct
    and ethics hotline.

    Your Dilemma:
Should you intervene and correct the numbers before submission? Should you escalate it? Or handle it
    internally and privately with Jenna?

    Answers:
    1. Using the Eight-Step Model from Chapter 2, walk through the decision-making process Jenna
and the operations manager should follow. (3 Marks)
    2. Apply the three major ethical lenses—consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics—to this
    case.
From each perspective, what course of action would be considered ethical? Finally, which of
these approaches do you find most convincing in guiding your decision, and why? (5 Marks)

    Restricted – ‫مقيد‬

Is Apex’s culture enabling or discouraging ethical behavior? Refer to the multisystem ethical
culture framework (formal vs informal). (3 Marks)
    4. Identify potential cognitive biases and organizational pressures influencing Jenna’s actions. (2
    Marks)
    5. What would you do if you were in the operations manager’s position? (2 Marks)
