Saudi Arabia is currently undergoing a major transformation through Vision 2030—an
ambitious national strategy aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on oil and building
a more diversified, sustainable, and competitive economy. At the core of this transformation
is technological innovation, which plays a vital role across key sectors such as renewable
energy, smart cities, healthcare, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and advanced
manufacturing.
For this assignment, students are required to think critically about how innovation is
developing within the Kingdom, where it originates, and how it is being applied and spread
across different sectors.
Students must refer to Chapter 1: ‘Introduction’ of the textbook as a key resource. A clear
understanding of the chapter, along with continuous critical analysis of each topic and
subtopic, is strongly recommended.
Based on the knowledge gained from the textbook and supported by the student’s own
thorough research, write an essay (1000–1200 words) on “Technological Innovation in
Vision 2030”
Essay should include the following sections:
1. Introduction (1 mark)

Briefly discuss why it’s important for Vision 2030—particularly in terms of economic
diversification, sustainability, and global competitiveness.

Organizations, Government, Networks and partnerships) of all these sources,
which one do you think plays the most important role in the Saudi context—and why?

Identify the main types of innovation (Product ,Process ,Disruptive …etc) taking place
in the Kingdom. Also, describe how innovation spreads—or diffuses—across society.

Discuss-Is Saudi Arabia mostly adopting innovation from other countries, or is it
creating its own?
4. Case Example (3 marks)
Choose one project linked to Vision 2030—such as NEOM, the Saudi Green Initiative,
fintech development, or digitization in healthcare.
