IT 212 Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is due in Module Seven and is the crea�on of a report for a poten�al new office of the adver�sing firm described in Milestone One. To help you complete the
project, you will complete two milestones that will be key sec�ons of the final project.
In Module Three, you submi�ed Milestone One, where you composed the first and second sec�ons of the project: the introduc�on and the sec�on on local area network (LAN) topology. In
Milestone Two, you will con�nue your work toward the final project by composing the next two sec�ons of the final project.
In Milestone Two, you will also need to review the scenario described in Milestone One and the requirements for the final project. Consider the cri�cal parts that your final project should
include and study the rubric that will be used to assess your work.
Here is the focus for the final project:
How would you approach se�ng up the network at the new loca�on in Faye�eville, NC?
What considera�ons are key in informing the systems and resources necessary to meet the organiza�on’s needs and support the business goals and objec�ves?
Keep in mind, however, that your work for Milestone Two involves only sec�ons III and IV of the final project. Therefore, for Milestone Two, the main goal of your report is as follows:
Explain key considera�ons for iden�fying an internet service provider for the new loca�on and recommend the appropriate provider to match the business case.
Address considera�ons and make recommenda�ons regarding hardware and so�ware selec�on, printer configura�ons, and bandwidth that address business needs.
Illustrate these considera�ons graphically in a network diagram (using Word, Draw.io, Visio, or Lucidchart).

II. Addi�onal Configura�ons: In this sec�on, you will address the accompanying considera�ons for the network based on the needs of the new office loca�on.
A. Iden�fy hardware and so�ware solu�ons to meet the needs of the new office loca�on. Be sure to explain your reasoning.
B. Iden�fy a printer configura�on solu�on to meet the distance prin�ng needs of the new office loca�on.

This could include such printer configura�on considera�ons as tracking devices, automa�ng driver distribu�on, and controlling access.
C. Iden�fy bandwidth and device solu�ons to meet the teleconferencing needs of the new office loca�on. Be sure to explain your reasoning.
III. Network Diagram
A. Include a network diagram that illustrates the recommended technical network configura�on of the hardware and so�ware, taking into account the recommended LAN topology
from Milestone One. Use a diagramming tool of your choice.
The diagram should iden�fy the rela�onships between:
Subnets
Network objects and devices
Rou�ng protocols and domains
Traffic flow and network segments
B. Paste the diagram into the final Word document, rather than submi�ng a na�ve file from your chosen drawing applica�on.

Microso�: Add a Drawing to a Document
As part of your proposal, you need to include a diagram. This document provides step-by-step instruc�ons for crea�ng drawings using the tools available through Microso� Office. You do
not have to use Microso� Office to create the diagram, but it is an op�on.
draw.io—Quick Start Video (1:35)
If you decide not to use Microso� to create your diagram, you have the op�on to use draw.io. This video provides a demonstra�on of the tools and capabili�es of draw.io.
Visio 2016
You can also choose to use Visio to create your diagram. This tutorial includes informa�on that may be helpful to you when crea�ng your diagram.
Students may obtain discounted, o�en free, Microso� so�ware through the Microso� Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program. Review these Microso� Azure guidelines for informa�on
on accessing your so�ware. If you have trouble downloading and installing the so�ware, contact the Help Desk.
Ge�ng Started in Lucidchart: The Basics
Lucidchart is another applica�on for crea�ng a diagram. This resource shows you how to use Lucidchart to create diagrams.
What to Submit
Your work must be submi�ed as a 1- to 2-page Microso� Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and APA forma�ng. Remember to copy
and paste your diagram into this document instead of submi�ng a separate file for your diagram.
