Module 5 Discussion
Communication in Leadership
After studying Module 5: Lecture Materials & Resources, discuss the following:
In this module, we are learning about the importance of communication in leadership. Communication is one of the most important skills a leader can have because it affects how well we connect with others and get things done.
We live in a world where we use digital communication a lot—like emails, texts, and social media. These tools make it easier to reach people quickly, but they can also cause problems. For example, it can be hard to tell the tone or emotion behind a text message, which might lead to misunderstandings.
Key parts of communication we will talk about this week include:
- Tone: How our message sounds. It’s important to be careful with tone, especially when communicating by text or email, since it can be misunderstood.
- Context: The situation in which communication happens. What works in one situation may not work in another.
- Empathy: Understanding how others feel, which helps build trust and good relationships.
- Authenticity: Being honest and real when we communicate. This helps build trust.
- Body Language: Even though we talk a lot through words, our body language (like how we stand or make eye contact) also tells people how we feel.
Discussion Question: Think about how you use communication in different situations, such as at school, work, or home. How do tone, body language, or understanding others’ feelings affect your communication? Write at least 200 words to share your thoughts on this.
