2050 Advanced Skills
You are Nursing House Supervisor and work with the Nursing Management team at your local hospital. Your hospital is a level 2 Trauma Center and you have access to all resources that are generally acceptable for current health care practices in this environment.
Review each of the 3 case study scenarios to prepare for a meaningful in-class discussion. Please make a bullet list of your plan for each and bring to class. We will discuss and decide together on a master plan that everyone agrees on. Use the provided emergency action plan templates in D2L as you desire.
Emergency Preparedness Activity
Develop a preparedness plan as a bulleted list. Utilize the nursing process to help explain/discuss your plan. Please define how you will respond to each emergency while also considering the following:
· Hospital building resources.
· Staffing resources and staffing response
· Security and safety concerns
· Psychosocial concerns
· Special considerations for your scenario
School Shooting
You receive a call that there has been a shooting at a local school from local law enforcement dispatch. The call from dispatch reports that there are several wounded individuals. Your first patient will arrive by ambulance in 15 minutes, patient condition is unknown. The dispatch reports that there are also wounded patients en route in personal vehicles, time to their arrival is unknown.
Natural Disaster
Weather reports have indicated a high risk for inclement summer weather in your community, tornado sirens have gone off and the hospital staff are implementing the emergency weather plan. You receive a call from law enforcement that a tornado has destroyed an apartment complex, an unknown number of individuals are injured or deceased, an unknown number of patients are expected to arrive in personal vehicles within the next hour.
Train Derailment and Chemical Spill
You receive a call from law enforcement dispatch that a train has derailed and exploded in a residential neighborhood, the train was carrying unknown flammable chemicals. An unknown number of injured or deceased patients are expected to arrive within minutes.
