Final
I decided to change my topic to something that I am familiar with. Hope this is ok.
1. Complete the five steps to writing your research question as shown in the lecture.
· Find something you are interested in and knowledgeable about.
I am a Certified Nursing Assistant and have previously worked as a hospice CNA who visited many long-term facilities, assisted living facilities, and homes. I am familiar with the issue of quality patient care within hospice.
· Do some research to learn more about the topic and discover what research has already been done.
Research shows the healthcare professionals-to-patient ratio within hospice companies and the quality of care the patients receive in long-term facilities, assisted living facilities, and in-home care.
· Narrow down the topic to form your research question.
Observation of quality care and how it impacts the well-being of the patient’s life while on hospice services.
· Ask if your topic is
FINER:
·
Feasible: is there the knowledge and resources to do the study?
There are multiple studies on the quality of care of patients within assisted living facilities, long-term facilities, and in-home hospice care. It is easy to find enough patients to participate in this study and it is an inexpensive study.
Interesting: will anyone want to read it?
Quality of care within assisted living facilities, long-term facilities, and homes for hospice care can be a concern in the medical community and can have serious consequences for patients and healthcare professionals.
Novel: is it bringing new information to the topic?
There is minimal research done on the best quality of care for patients in these different places.
Ethical: will anyone be harmed?
There can be some ethical concerns when it comes to the ethical views of the facilities and homes. It is important to make sure that rules and boundaries are being respected. No physical harm will come to the patients through this study.
Relevant: is it needed by the public?
It is important to understand the different aspects of quality care within hospice and all of the locations that healthcare professionals visit so that new admissions of patients can determine the best route for their loved ones.
· If the topic is FINER, construct the question and a great tool for creating the question is
PICOT.
·
Population: who/what is this intended to help study?
Hospice patients.
Intervention: what is going to be done to the research subjects?
Weekly evaluations of quality care.
Comparison: who/what will the group be compared to?
Assisted living facilities, long-term facilities, and in-home care.
Outcome: what is the desired effect of the intervention?
If there is a difference in quality of care for these different locations.
Time: how long will the study run? (This is sometimes not relevant to a study.)
Subjects are being studied for 3 months.
2. Write the research question using your PICOT answers.
In (Population), how does (Intervention) compared to (Comparison) affect (Outcome) over (Time)?
In hospice care, how does living in a long-term facility, assisted living, or in-home care affect the quality of care within the first three months of being in hospice?
3. Write the null and alternative hypotheses using your research question.
Ho: There is no difference in quality of care within the location of hospice care.
HA: There is a difference in the quality of care within the location of hospice care.
4. Include three articles related to your research topic, in proper APA format. You may use the one from the last assignment. State how these are related to your
research topic.
