 Operations Project and Project Charter Introduction

For the Final Project, you will develop an Operations Project, which includes a Project Charter. As the Project Manager, you can choose a project that you have been a part of, are currently working on, or create a hypothetical, realistic project. The project must be focused on rectifying an observed or potential problem.

Preparing for the Assignment

  • Review Olson, J. R., McLaughlin, D. B., & Sharma, L. (2022). Healthcare operations management. – Chapters 1-16.

Instructions 

  1. Develop the Project Charter (Use the project charter template provided):a. Develop the project’s Mission Statementb. Create the project’s purpose and justificationc. Determine High-level requirementsd. Relate the project’s connection to strategic goalse. Determine Project Manager and Authority Levelf. Determine Stakeholder Influencesg. Evaluate Functional Organizations and Their Participationh. Evaluate organizational, environmental, and external assumptions and constraints.i. Determine the financial business case – Return on Investment
  2. Problem Solving/Decision Making:a. Choose and create a problem identification tool/map that fits the project/problem (i.e. cause-and-effect diagram, process-type cause-and-effect diagram, process map, etc.).b. Justify and explain your tool/map substantially and identify the project you will address.
  3. Project Strategy:a. Determine the project’s short-term and long-term goals.b. Determine the project’s strategy with the use of a strategy map.
  4. Project Team:a. Select 4 project team members by functional or occupation title, i.e., Senior VP of Operations (5 total team members, including yourself).b. Support the purpose/benefit of each team member being on the team.
  5. Stakeholders: Identify the project’s stakeholders and how they will be impacted by this project.
  6. Analytics: Identify data that will be used in your project and explain how it will be used to obtain the desired goals in the three distinct phases of analytics:a. Descriptive analyticsb. Predictive analyticsc. Prescriptive analytics
  7. Create a work breakdown structure (Exhibits 6.7 and 6.8 in your text).a. This document can be generated in Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office products by using the commands Insert → Smart Art → Hierarchy. WBS = work breakdown structure.
  8. Develop five common risks in healthcare clinical projects and develop contingency responses for each.
  9. Summarize what you have learned in this course and by implementing these project assignments.
