Fabulous Footwear Structure

The structure of Fabulous Footwear is characterized by a relatively informal and flexible organizational setup that operates with a small, independent structure that allows for frequent changes in shoe styles which is driven by the artistic talent and judgment from its president Charles F. Allison (Daft 2022). Decision-making process for new styles involves multiple departments, including styling, sales, and production, with a significant reliance on personal communication and manual processes which enables rapid adaptation to market demands. This structure can lead to internal friction and inefficiencies due to the lack of formalized procedures and technology integration. Iranmanesh et al. (2021) examines the impacts of organizational structure on operational performance through innovation capability, highlighting the role of innovative culture as a moderator. The study suggests that a well-defined organizational structure, coupled with a strong innovative culture, can enhance operational performance by fostering better communication, coordination, and adaptability. This structured approach contrasts with the informal setup of Fabulous Footwear that is more flexible that leads to issues and resistance to technological advancements.

Walheiser et al. (2021) explore the relationship between organizational structure, product innovativeness, and new product success and the findings suggest that while a structured organization can facilitate product development processes there is also a hindrance to innovation if it becomes too rigid. The study highlights the importance of balancing structure with flexibility to ensure that innovative ideas can flourish and lead to successful new products. Iranmanesh et al (2021) focus on the benefits of a structured approach combined with an innovative culture, while Walheiser et al. (2021) caution against excessive rigidity and emphasize the need for flexibility to support product innovation. Integrating insights from both studies, organizations should strive for a balanced structure that promotes efficiency and innovation, ensuring that they can adapt to changing market demands and achieve long-term success.

Proverbs 24:3-4 states, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” (New International Version Bible, 2011). Applying this principle, Fabulous Footwear could benefit from integrating wisdom and understanding into its organizational structure, establishing more formalized processes and leveraging technology to enhance communication and coordination. This approach aligns with the research by Iranmanesh et al. (2021), suggesting that a structured yet innovative culture can lead to better operational performance and a more harmonious work environment. By combining biblical wisdom with modern organizational theory, Fabulous Footwear can build a more efficient and effective structure that supports its creative and competitive goals.

Fabulous Footwear Structure and Frequent Changes

The structure of Fabulous Footwear is both appropriate and inappropriate for frequent changes. The informal and flexible organizational setup allows for rapid adaptation to market demands, leveraging the artistic talent. This type of flexibility enables the company to quickly implement new designs and respond to changing consumer preferences. However, the lack of formalized procedures and resistance to technological advancements lead to inefficiencies and internal friction with the reliance on personal communication and manual processes slows down decision-making and coordination, making it difficult to maintain a competitive edge against larger firms with more stable and orderly systems (Daft 2022). To address these issues I would recommend implementing a more structured approach that integrates modern technology and formalizes communication channels. This would streamline processes, reduce internal conflicts, and enhance overall efficiency.

Hayes et al. (2022) advocates for an idionomic approach to processes of change emphasizes the need for a unified, personalized science of human improvement, suggesting that organizations should tailor their structures to fit the unique needs and capabilities of their employees. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up” (New International Version Bible, 2011) Fabulous Footwear can benefit from integrating collaborative and supportive practices into its organizational structure that establishes a mor formalized processes and leveraging technology, the company can create a more efficient and harmonious work environment. Seo (2020) discusses the detection of frequent change-points in data using specific methods of Wild Binary Segmentation 2 and Steepest-Drop Model Selection to identify frequent, abrupt changes in statistical data, emphasizing the importance of systematic approaches to detect these changes accurately. This type of approach is highly technical and data-driven, aiming to improve the precision of change-point detection in various applications. Comparing these two studies and applying these insights to the structure of Fabulous Footwear, the company’s informal and flexible setup allows for frequent changes in shoe styles, aligning with Seo’s emphasis on frequent change-points, however the lack of formalized procedures and resistance to technological advancements lead to inefficiencies and internal friction. To address these issues, Fabulous Footwear could benefit from integrating Hayes et al. (2022) personalized and adaptive strategies, establishing more formalized processes and leveraging technology to enhance communication and coordination.

Fabulous Footwear, CEO for a Day, and New Information Technology

To encourage employees at Fabulous Footwear to use the new information technology, I would focus on addressing the underlying issues of resistance and lack of engagement. Drawing insights from Li et al. (2024), that discusses the identification of key core technology problems in the new generation information technology industry, I would implement a strategic approach to overcome new technology challenges. First I would emphasize the benefits of the new technology by demonstrating how it can streamline processes, improve communication, and enhance overall efficiency. This would be achieved through training sessions, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations that show employees the practical advantages of using the intranet and other technological tools. Additionally, I would involve key influencers within the company, such as department heads and respected employees, to champion the use of technology and share their positive experiences. Secondly, I would address the “strangled” problem identified by Li et al. (2024) which refers to the barriers that prevent the effective adoption of core technologies. This involves identifying and removing obstacles such as lack of access, insufficient training, and resistance to change. By providing adequate support, resources, and incentives, I would create an environment that encourages employees to embrace the new technology. For example, offering rewards for early adopters and recognizing those who contribute to improving technological integration can motivate others to follow suit. Applying Proverbs 3:5-6 I would foster a culture of trust and collaboration within Fabulous Footwear (New International Version Bible, 2011). By encouraging employees to trust in the benefits of the new technology and supporting them through the transition, the company can create a more harmonious and efficient work environment. This approach aligns with both Li et al. (2022) research and biblical wisdom, suggesting that a supportive and strategic implementation of technology can lead to better operational performance and employee engagement.

The structure of Fabulous Footwear from informal and flexible setup allowed for rapid adaptation to frequent changes in shoe styles but also leads to inefficiencies and internal friction. The studies Iranmanesh et al. (2021) and Walheiser et al. (2021) both emphasized the importance of balancing structure with innovation and flexibility. There is the need for integrating modern technology and formalized processes to enhance efficiency, drawing insights from Hayes et al. (2022) and Seo (2020). The comprehensive analysis of organizational structure, change management, and technology adoption, offering practical recommendations for improving operational performance and employee engagement at Fabulous Footwear.
