Internship Experience
Introduction
My internship at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital for the National Guard
was a meaningful and transformative experience. It allowed me to apply what I had learned in
the classroom to a real-world hospital setting. This was mainly in a vital department’s
technical and administrative facets. As a result of my internship, I gained a better
understanding of the connection between healthcare delivery and medical imaging
operations.
Application of Academic Knowledge
I applied much of what I learned in class during my internship. I started incorporating
ideas like patient confidentiality and healthcare ethics. I also incorporated hospital workflow
and clinical communication into my everyday activities. My proficiency with scheduling
techniques, administrative systems, and quality control methods was vital. It enabled me to
make a valuable contribution to the department. Class discussions on patient-centred care and
healthcare management laid the basis for working. This was in a setting prioritizing precision,
coordination, and patient safety. In particular, understanding healthcare organizational
structure and good communication strategies helped me navigate the department’s
collaborative character.
Suggested Curriculum Enhancements
Even though I had a solid foundation from my education, there are still areas where I
could have been more prepared with further coursework. A specialized course in medical
imaging administration would have been incredibly valuable. This includes an overview of
imaging technologies and reporting systems like Picture Archiving and Communication
System. Additionally, hands-on training in hospital information systems and electronic health
records would have made my transition into the administrative role smoother. Students

working in delicate fields like medical imaging might also benefit from a deeper examination
of healthcare IT tools and data privacy regulations.
Changing Perspectives
This internship has evolved my perspective on hospital administration, particularly in
a highly specialized field like medical imaging. I saw how crucial behind-the-scenes work is
to diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. It also underlined how crucial exact planning and
clear communication are to guarantee prompt service delivery. My understanding of the
administrative functions that support clinical results has grown.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my internship was a great chance to apply what I learned in the
classroom to healthcare operations. In addition to improving my administrative and technical
abilities, it increased my appreciation for the challenges of running a medical imaging
department. This experience has shaped my career objectives and drive to advance in the
hospital administration industry.
