Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to help you think critically and creatively about how ethical leaders respond to the challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in school, work, and life.

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to help you think critically and creatively about how ethical leaders respond to the challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in school, work, and life. By illustrating an ethical dilemma and demonstrating how leadership values guide decision-making, you will practice applying virtues like fairness, dignity, and responsibility to real-world scenarios. This assignment also reinforces how innovation and ethical leadership can coexist in the responsible use of AI.

Instructions:

In this creative project, you will design a 6-panel storyboard that tells the story of a leader navigating an ethical situation involving AI. Your storyboard should show how the leader identifies the problem, applies ethical leadership principles, and makes a thoughtful decision that supports human dignity and potential.

You are encouraged to use Canva’s free storyboard creator for this assignment, as it provides easy-to-use templates and customization tools.

Detailed Instructions:

  1. Choose an AI-related ethical scenario. You can create your own or use one of the suggested examples:
    • A student is wrongly flagged for plagiarism by an AI tool.
    • An AI-powered hiring system filters out qualified applicants from a minority group.
    • A smart home device records private conversations and sells the data to advertisers.
    • A teacher uses AI to grade essays, but the system misinterprets creative writing.
    • A fitness tracking app shares sensitive health data without the user’s knowledge.
  2. Plan your storyboard using the six-panel format. Each panel should include:
    • A short title or heading (1–5 words)
    • A visual (drawing, image, or digital graphic)
    • A caption or 2–3 sentence explanation describing the action or thought

Panel Breakdown:

  • Panel 1 – Context: Introduce the setting and characters (e.g., school, workplace).
  • Panel 2 – Ethical Problem: Clearly show the issue caused or worsened by AI.
  • Panel 3 – Leader’s Reflection: Show the leader identifying the problem and asking: Is this fair? Is this ethical? Who is being harmed?
  • Panel 4 – Values in Action: Highlight a leadership value (e.g., integrity, empathy, justice) guiding the leader’s response.
  • Panel 5 – Ethical Decision: Show the leader making a decision or taking action that addresses the issue responsibly.
  • Panel 6 – Reflection & Impact: Illustrate the outcome and how the leader’s choice impacted others or improved the situation.

Create your storyboard digitally or by hand:

  • You may use Canva Storyboard TemplatesLinks to an external site. (recommended), PowerPoint, Google Slides, or draw each panel and take a clear photo or scan.
  • Use simple visuals—stick figures, icons, or shapes are fine.
  • Focus more on clear storytelling and ethical reasoning than artistic skill.
  • Add brief, clear captions beneath each panel so your audience understands what is happening and why.
  • Save and submit your final storyboard as a PDF, image file, or slideshow (PPT/PDF format preferred). Upload to the course platform by the deadline.

Submission Instructions:

Review your storyboard to ensure it includes:

  1. Six panels that follow the required format
  2. Clear ethical issue involving AI
  3. Application of at least one leadership virtue or principle
  4. A resolution and reflection
  5. Short captions in each panel explaining the story

Export your storyboard:

  • If using Canva, click “Share” → “Download”, then choose PDF (Standard) or PNG format.
  • If using PowerPoint or Google Slides, export as a PDF or .ppt/.pptx file.
  • If hand-drawn, scan or take clear, well-lit photos and compile them into a single PDF.
  • Save your file with the following format: LastName_FirstName_AIStoryboard.pdf
  • Upload your final file to the assignment submission area on Canvas (or your LMS) by the posted deadline.
  • Double-check that your upload is successful and the file is viewable.

Submission Instructions:

  • Attention: Complete and submit the assignment by 11:59 PM ET on Friday.
  • Late work policies, expectations regarding proper citations, acceptable means of responding to peer feedback, and other expectations are at the discretion of the instructor.
  • You can expect feedback from the instructor within 48 to 72 hours from the due date.
