Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with hands-on experience in designing, collecting, coding, and analyzing qualitative data related to organizational leadership. Students will apply principles from Chapters 11 and 12 of the textbook to explore leadership behaviors, communication strategies, or decision-making processes in real-world organizations.

Learning Outcomes Addressed:

· Design and plan a qualitative research study within an organizational context.

· Collect, organize, and manage qualitative data from interviews, observations, or documents.

· Apply coding techniques to identify themes, patterns, and insights in qualitative data.

· Interpret and present qualitative findings ethically and effectively.

Assignment Instructions:

1.
Data Collection

With your capstone topic in mind: (Make a topic at your discretion)

1. Develop an interview guide, observation checklist, or document review protocol.

2. Describe how you will obtain consent and maintain confidentiality.

3. Collect at least 3–5 qualitative data points (e.g., interview excerpts, observation notes).

Data Organization and Coding

1. Organize collected data logically (e.g., in a database or spreadsheet).

2. Apply coding techniques to identify initial codes, categories, and emerging themes.

3. Provide a visual or narrative representation of your coding process.

Analysis and Interpretation

1. Interpret the data by identifying patterns, themes, and insights relevant to leadership practices.

2. Discuss how your findings align with the three knowledge areas that you identified in your prospectus.

3. In 500-600 words, summarize your qualitative research process, findings, and implications.

4. Reflect on challenges encountered during data collection and analysis, and propose strategies for improvement.

Assessment Criteria:

· Thoroughness of data collection and organization

· Appropriateness and rigor of coding and analysis

· Depth of interpretation and connection to organizational leadership theory

· Ethical considerations and professionalism in presentation

· Overall clarity, structure, and writing quality: APA referencing and citation style; 12 points, double-spacing, minimum of 500 words and maximum of 600 words (excluding texts in the cover page and reference section).
