1. You are a baseball statistician and a passionate Boston Red Sox fan who wants to compare the on-base percentage of Manny Ramirez (Outfielder, Boston Red Sox, 1993 – 2011) and Mookie Betts (Right fielder, Boston Red Sox, 2014 – present).
• Describe your step-by-step process to explain how to compare these two players considering they are from different baseball generations. Be specific as possible with your answer.
2. Open the Excel spreadsheet of MLB 2019 baseball attendance data for all 30 team home games.
• Create a histogram of AVG attendance across all 30 Major League Baseball teams.
3. As a baseball statistician, you want to know the typical number of home runs hit by a National League team in 2014; you guess this typical number to be 150 home runs. We can evaluate how good of a guess this is by calculating RMSE of the 150-home run guess and the actual home run data. The table below summarizes the RMSE calculations using the 2014 National League team home run data. The residual column contains the difference between the home run value and the 150-home run guess, and the Residual squared column contains the square of the residual.
