 Describe an adequate diet.

An adequate diet provides sufficient energy such as calories, essential fatty acids, essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to support optimal growth and to maintain and repair body tissues. The diet should meet all the nutritional and energy requirements that a person needs, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fruits, vegetables, grains, and daily.

Distinguish between primary and secondary malnutrition.

Primary malnutrition is due to only dietary factors, which can involve eating poor quality food, overeating, taking too many vitamin supplements, and lack of essential nutrients.

Secondary malnutrition occurs when an individual’s characteristics make a normally adequate diet insufficient for instance when a person’s dietary intake is adequate, but they can’t be absorbed, utilized, and stored faster than they are consumed.
