Recommending an Evidence-Based Practice Change
Create an 8- to 9-slide
narrated PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following (NOTE: This slide count does not include the cover slide and the reference slide(s). I will stop viewing the slides after the 9th slide, so make sure you get the work in with the number of slides allowed.) :
· Briefly
describe your healthcare organization, including its
culture and readiness for change. (You may opt to keep various elements of this anonymous, such as your company name.) Provide an overview on the slide of the organization An example might be: * a 820 healthcare facility *Urban setting * Specializations includes CCU, ICU, pediatrics, OB-GYN, and a class one trauma unit (* notes a different line on the slide) Readiness for change * Senior leadership rounding program, * Interdisciplinary decision-making, *Magnet status” . The verbal commentary would explain what you have on the slide in more detail.
·
Describe the current problem or opportunity for change. Include in this description the
circumstances surrounding the need for change (Identify key factors leading to the need for change. Examples could include something like “Nurse retention is down by 20% in the last five years”, “Opioid overdoses are up by 10% in the ED over the last six months”, or ” UTIs have increased in the CCU over the last three months.” The determination is based on the reason you decided to look into to topic for your project.); the
scope of the issue (Is the problem you are addressing seen on a unit at the hospital, seen throughout the hospital, seen in the community, seen nationally, etc? Just identify the scope under this heading on the slide); the
stakeholders involved (Under the heading of stakeholders, identify on the slide everyone impacted by the problem and resolution); and the
risks associated with change implementation in general (What might be the consequences of the change identified- could it be loss of jobs, sabotage of change because some don’t like change, resistance, need for relearning, etc.? You need to look at the literature to determine what can happen when change is initiated.) (ONLY the risk associated with change are offered in general terms. All other information needs to be specific to your project. Remember to cite literature as part of your documentation. The verbal commentary would explain what you have on the slide in more detail.
·
Propose an evidence-based idea for a change in practice using an EBP approach to decision making. Note that you may find further research needs to be conducted if sufficient evidence is not discovered. Use your literature findings to propose how practice needs to be changed in relationship to your identified problem and the indings from the articles you chose. Again list on the slide and ex[plain in detail verbally.
·
Describe your plan for knowledge transfer of this change, including
knowledge creation,
dissemination, and
organizational adoption and implementation. (Remember to include any permissions needed prior to dissemination. ) (Here you need to identify the step by step process for knowledge transfer. As previously noted, put phrases on the slide and explain in detail verbally!
·
Explain how you would disseminate the results of your project to an audience. Provide a rationale for why you selected this dissemination strategy. (Consider who is your audience prior to developing this aspect of the presentation.) What is the best way to share your information? Consider your population (audience), information offered, available venues, etc. For example, if the problem is on your unit, the first step for dissemination would not be to write an article aobut the problem. You need to get the content to your unit first!
·
Describe the measurable outcomes you hope to achieve with the implementation of this evidence-based change. (Remember be
concrete, measurable, and specific. For example, “By the end of the intervention C Diff will be decreased in ICU patients by 20%.” ) Measurable outcomes need to be measured – for example, “By the end of the presentation, nurse participants will have an increase in knowledge about self-care by 20%”, or “After use of the hard stop process when sepsis symptoms are noted, sepsis related complications will be down by 15%”.
· Be sure to provide APA citations of the supporting evidence-based peer reviewed articles you selected to support your thinking.
· Add a
lessons learned section that includes the following:
·
A summary of the critical appraisal of the peer-reviewed articles you previously submitted (past assignment efforts – what did you learn?)
·
An explanation about what you learned from completing the Evaluation Table within the Critical Appraisal Tool Worksheet Template (1-3 slides) These slides are part of the original 9 slides allowed for this effort.
