All students will select a contemporary social welfare concern, (e.g., climate change, homelessness, immigration) and analyze its historical context.
Students that fail to submit their topic of choice on time will receive a deduction of points on their final grade.
The writing assignment is due: October 26 at 11:59 pm.
Specifically, your paper should include critical analysis of the following:
1. Title page (Includes pg. no. in top right Next In upper middle of paper (Students name, University, course name and no. professor, and date)
2. Introduction (explain purpose of paper and what you will be presenting in your paper (must have a thesis statement or main idea of paper-usually placed in the final sentence of the introductory paragraph).
3. Social Welfare concern (Provide an overview of the social welfare concern, why you chose this particular social problem, including current scope and impact. Be sure to address how issues of oppression contribute to differential impact for certain populations
4. Trace the history of the concern as it developed. Identify the strategies and claims used to elicit public support for the issue. Who were the major players in that work? Be sure to describe the historical involvement of the social work profession, citing specific examples of how their work not only led to positive change but also exacerbated unjust conditions for vulnerable populations.
5. Injustices (Using course concepts, explain how this concern constitutes a form of injustice (e.g., human rights, economic, environmental).
6. Social Identifies (Discuss how your social identities and values impact your perspective).
7. Conclusion: Summarize the most important elements of your paper
8. References: 5 references should include five sources
