The hope of living in a world that is free from racism looks dismal. Racism is an unfortunate and complex issue that manifests in various aspects of society. This issue rooted in prejudice and injustices requires a multifaceted approach involving education, policy change, and change in attitude and behavior. Witnessing the effects of racism over the years against blacks has developed some level of unspoken resentment, especially the root of one race seeing another race as inferior. This is manifested systemically, in the access to education and even the quality of life in the community you choose to live and other.

I think educating myself more about racism by examining the history by listening to podcasts, reading, and more. Listening to Dr.Ibram opened my mind to new concepts and terminologies. Also, reflecting on my own biases would produce greater awareness and understanding. Additionally, exposing myself to different perspectives.

The aspect of reducing racism within family and friends begins with conversation and encouragement to support and advocate for Anti Racism legislation and policy change. Policies that address systemic racism and promote equality in education, access to health care, and employment.  Having open discussion is one way we face racism, discussing how to conduct oneself if found in a situation where discrimination is present. Also, reporting experience to appropriate authorities. For instance, I thought of a family member who is a Nurse in England, and she shared in conversation her experience as a Nurse and how white patients would discriminate against her and others who look like her. She did not report this because it has happened so often, she sees it as she has to do her job. I am sure many others look at it this way and do not see reporting as necessary.

Moreover, In the aspect of the community and country, advocating for change will begin with policy change, I believe policies significantly impact mindset and behaviors, by setting clear expectations within which people operate. Therefore, advocating for policy change can reduce racism. For instance, The Black Lives Matter movement has changed the country and shifted conversations about police, social justice, and structural racism. (Neimond,2020). However, the stand-your-ground law remains, and many states embrace this law that protects just one group of people. Despite the controversies surrounding this law, mindset and behaviors have not changed because the law is still active and supports the camp that argues that it enhances self-defense.

Many African Americans lost their lives senselessly because of this law. (Dr. Ibram,2020) artfully, describe the term Anti-racism as a place of admitting when one demonstrates racist ideas and policies, this will affect mindset and behavior. But my question is, how many are willing to truthfully admit to being racist especially after many have been in denial for decades? Therefore, policies that pose racism manifestation need to be changed, which will affect attitudes and behaviors. As human beings, we can embrace change. If everyone is allowed to strive equally, the country will benefit overall.
