STATISTICS ASSIGNMENT: Developing a Null and Alternate Hypothesis
MY DISSERTATION TOPIC: Comparing the Factors and Impact of Teacher Shortages in Urban and Rural Schools
Directions: After reviewing the PowerPoint presentations in Module 6 in Canvas, take some time to think about your proposed research interest. If you choose a qualitative design, what would be some possible research questions that you would want to explore? Usually your research starts with a or some burning questions. If you choose a quantitative design, what would be a possible null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis? Are you thinking about a mixed design (quantitative and qualitative)?
1. Develop some possible research questions for your topic of study. What do you want to research?
2. Develop a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis related to your topic of study.
Remember, the null is written as “There is no significant relationship, difference, etc…) I like to explain that it is written negatively, since it is usually the goal of the researcher to find a significance and reject the null. The alternative is the opposite of the null; it is written positively; it is usually what the research (your chapter 2) supports.
This is practice. Your research questions and your hypotheses may change or be revised as you progress through your annotated bibliography and chapters 1 and 2.
