Step 2: Find 15 sources on your chosen topic for your argumentative paper. At least 10 of these sources must be peer-reviewed articles. Whenever possible, focus on articles published in the last five years.

Step 3: Save each article to your computer, naming the files by the article title.

In your first discussion forum,  you will select, narrow down, and share a research topic that you will use for your final paper in this course. Once you have selected your topic from this New York Times article, ( participate in this week’s discussion forum post by addressing the following:

  1. Follow the steps in Chapter 3 of The Craft of Research (3.3 through 3.4.3) to refine your topic and determine what “how,” “why,” and “so what” questions you can ask about your topic.
  2. Post the three-step statement of your argumentative paper topic following the example in 3.4.3 as a response to this post.
  3. Explain what you know about the topic so far and what you hope to learn more about through your research.
  4. List the types of questions you can ask about the topic.

In your responses to your classmates, ensure to address the following two areas:

  1. Have they sufficiently narrowed down their topic?
  2. Does their topic answer the “So what?” question and lead you to want to learn more about the subject?
