READING: Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Research and Practice (8th edition) by P. E. Spector
This assignment helps you meet CO 1-4 and MO 1-4. Chapter 8 presents theories of motivation. Chapters 9 and 10 cover employee attitudes and behaviors. In this assignment, you will examine the interrelationship of these concepts. Be sure to address the following module objectives in your submission:
- Compare and contrast the ways motivation theories explain work behavior.
- Apply principles of motivation theories to professional experiences.
- Identify methods of measuring job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
- Summarize findings on causes and effects of job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Choose two of the following theories of motivation to focus on in this paper:
- Vroom’s Expectancy Theory
- Bandura’s Self-Efficacy Theory
- Adam’s Equity Theory
- Locke and Latham’s Goal Setting Theory
- Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory
- Self-Determination Theory
This assignment has three sections.
Section 1
In 2 paragraphs, identify your chosen theories and explain in your own words the relevant elements of the theory, being careful to correctly and fully explain specific concepts and predictions from the theory and to cite the sources of your information, including our text. Do not use direct quotes or paraphrase information in Section 1.
Section 2
In 2 pages, describe how and why those specific theoretical concepts have been illustrated in your own work experiences AND the ways you can apply those theoretical principles to increase your effectiveness in reaching your career goals.
Section 3
In 2 pages, summarize in your own words some research about causes and effects of job satisfaction and organizational commitment, being sure to cite your sources of information. Then explain the ways your employer (or a previous employer) could use concepts from one or both of the theories of motivation you introduced in your response to Section 1 of this assignment to increase employee satisfaction and organizational commitment for you and your coworkers.
In your submission, use at least 2 specific references to incorporate the assigned learning materials.
Additional research beyond our course readings is permitted, but not required. Cite all sources, including your textbook, and include an APA reference page.
