Community Presentation

As the company officer of an engine company serving a very well-to-do neighborhood, the chief has asked you to make a presentation at the next scheduled meeting of the area homeowner’s association. When you phone the president of the association, she thanks you, and indicates that you will be given 20 minutes to make your presentation, followed by an informal question and answer period. As you discuss the outcome of the call with the chief, he reminds you that a local bond referendum designed to help support public safety will be held the week that follows your presentation. He asks you to focus on the diverse roles of today’s fire department in the hopes of garnering much-needed support at the polls.

Prepare a 10–12 slide PowerPoint presentation tailored to the chief’s request. As you prepare your content, give consideration to the following matters which may influence your presentation:

  • Your audience members are homeowners, affluent, and see your station each day.
  • Your time is limited, so your message must be clear and succinct.

Narration Guidelines:

  • Maintain a professional tone by summarizing observations and evaluations for each slide.
  • Ensure that your presentation is highly ordered, logical, and unified.
  • Words should be clearly enunciated and professional tone should be sustained throughout the presentation narration.
  • Audio recording should be free of background noise and interruptions.
