Moral Dilemmas and Kohlberg’s Stages of Development

Kohlberg’s theory of moral development outlines six stages that individuals go through as they develop their sense of right and wrong. According to Kohlberg, as people mature, they progress through these stages, with more complex and abstract moral reasoning emerging over time.

For this week’s discussion, you will reflect on a moral dilemma you experienced and connect to one of Kohlberg’s stages of moral development.

Use the following points to guide the development of your initial discussion board post:

Describe a situation in your life where you faced a moral dilemma.

  • How did you resolve it, and what stage(s) of moral development were you using?
    • Make sure to clearly explain how this stage(s) aligns with your experience.
  • As you continue to grow and transition into different life stages, do you think your moral reasoning will evolve?
    • What factors might influence your moral development?
    • What steps can you take to improve your ability to make sound moral decisions?Moral Dilemmas and Kohlberg’s Stages of Development
