Throughout your academic career, you will apply critical thinking and writing skills to demonstrate your learning achievements. These skills will transfer to and contribute to your success in the workplace. Applying cultural awareness in your written communication will also be important.

This task consists of two sections.

Review the “Information Literacy: Evaluating Sources” document found under the Web Links section at the bottom of the page. Then, use the “QUOTA Template” in the Supporting Documents section of this document to complete Section 1 of this task.

Section One: You will do the following:

•   Identify a career role in your degree plan focus.

•   Complete the “QUOTA Sources Template” for the two sources provided for you in the task requirements. You will use the resource “Information Literacy: Evaluating Sources” to complete this section. The link for this resource is provided at the bottom of the page in the Web Links section.

•   Evaluate the sources using the QUOTA (qualified, up-to-date, objective, true, and applicable) criteria.

Section Two: You will do the following:

•   Find two to four credible sources related to your chosen career role.

•   Compose an evidence-based paper that includes the qualifications and responsibilities of the chosen career role, the skills required of the role, and the individuals a person in this role will frequently encounter following the requirements in the prompts and the rubric.

You will be required to acknowledge sources for all examples, in-text citations, and references. You should review the resources provided in the course of study and the Academic Coaching Center for support with in-text citations and references.

Note: All references used must be current, within the last five years.

Requirements

Your submission must represent your original work and understanding of the course material. Most performance assessment submissions are automatically scanned through the WGU similarity checker. Students are strongly encouraged to wait for the similarity report to generate after uploading their work and then review it to ensure Academic Authenticity guidelines are met before submitting the file for evaluation. See Understanding Similarity Reports for more information.  Grammarly Note: Professional Communication will be automatically assessed through Grammarly for Education in most performance assessments before a student submits work for evaluation. Students are strongly encouraged to review the Grammarly for Education feedback prior to submitting work for evaluation, as the overall submission will not pass without this aspect passing. See Use Grammarly for Education Effectively for more information.  Microsoft Files Note: Write your paper in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) unless another Microsoft product, or pdf, is specified in the task directions. Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc.  All supporting documentation, such as screenshots and proof of experience, should be collected in a pdf file and submitted separately from the main file. For more information, please see Computer System and Technology Requirements.

You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

Use the “QUOTA Template” attachment in the Supporting Documents to complete Section 1 and Section 2.

Section 1: Academic Research

A.  Identify one career role related to your degree plan’s focus that you will use as the basis for Section 1 and Section 2.

B.  Evaluate the two given sources by completing a QUOTA analysis (qualified, up-to-date, objective, true, and applicable) for each source to explain why it is credible or not credible.

•   Rethinking Cultural Competence: Shifting to Cultural Humility”

•   Human Services”

Note: Use of the attached QUOTA Template is strongly recommended.

Section 2: Evidence-Based Writing

Note: Before beginning your research, read the requirements and identify the topics you will be writing about to ensure the sources support your writing.

C.  Identify two to four credible sources that are related to the career role you chose in part A and that have been published within the last five years (this can include the Cultural Competence source provided in part B).

D.  Using information from the research you collected in part C, write an evidence-based paper about the career role you identified by doing the following:

Note: You must acknowledge the sources used for all examples with in-text citations and references (include the big four elements).

1.  Describe two relevant professional skills (e.g., communication, attitude, problem-solving) that are essential for success in the career role identified in part A. Provide a description for each skill. Support your descriptions using a relevant, cited example for each skill from at least one of the sources identified in part C.

2.  Describe one relevant problem a person in this career role is likely to encounter and support your explanation using one relevant, cited example from the sources identified in part C.

a.  Explain how one of the skills described in part D1 can be applied to the problem identified in part D2. Support your explanation using one relevant, cited example from the sources identified in part C.

3.  Describe two types of individuals (e.g., patients, clients, peers, or outside business partners) you will frequently encounter in your chosen role and support your description using a relevant, cited example for each type of individual from the sources identified in part C.

4.  Explain the importance of using cultural awareness when interacting with individuals you identified in part D3 and support your explanation using one relevant, cited example from the sources identified in part C.

a.  Explain the negative effect on individuals you identified in part D3 if you are not culturally aware.

E.  Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

F.  Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
