TOPIC: Springfield’s Green Future Festival Brings Community Together

THE ATTACHED FILE IS A SAMPLE ARTICLE

Instructions

For this assignment, you will play the role of an arts reporter for a community web-based news publication. You will write an informative news article of at least 800 words about your chosen topic. As a good reporter, you’ll want to answer the classic reporter’s questions:

  • Who? Who is the artist, or group of artists?
  • What? What is the work of art?
  • When? When was it created?
  • Where? Where is it located?
  • How? How was it made?
  • Why? Why does it matter? (This is the most important question of all.)

Use your creativity to make your article look like something you would read on a community news web site. Check out a few local news sites and pay attention to the look and feel. Your article should include a headline, which is the title in a large font, as well as a byline, which is your name.

The exact structure of your article will depend to some degree on its purpose. For instance, if you want to boost the reputation of the artist, your focus is likely to be on the artist’s background, ideas, accomplishments, and accolades. In contrast, if you wish to emphasize the importance of a particular work of art, the focus will be on how it was made and why people should care about it. In this week’s Assignment Connection, a sample structure is provided.

Unlike traditional essays, web-style articles use sources differently. Instead of using the APA-style of in-text citations with credit provided through parenthetical author/date references, web-style articles use hyperlinks within the text of the article itself. However, because this is a college-level writing assignment, you are required to include a References list in APA style of the articles you provided the hyperlinks to at the end of the article.
