Virtual workforce
Instructions
Carefully read the case study and respond to ALL 3 questions below.
Sophie is the Healthcare Manager at the QXZ Medical Center. The Medical Center is part of a five-hospital chain and two health clinics known as Hometown Health. Sophie earned her registered health information administrator (RHIA) certification five years ago and is excited about the decision to transition to a virtual department. The medical center has an EHR that will support this transition. Sophie and a few other employees will work with patients, physicians, and committees on-site, while everyone else will work remotely. As excited as Sophie is, she has the following concerns:
- Keeping the employees connected with the healthcare organization
- Providing training
- Ensuring the quality of the work produced by the remote employees
- Managing the remote employees
The transition to a virtual workforce will occur in one year, and there is much to do to prepare.
1. Identify some tasks that must be completed before the department can transition to the virtual HIM department.
2. Identify the changes that the staff may experience when they start working remotely and how they may struggle with these changes.
3. Based on the tasks and changes identified and considering the other healthcare stakeholders, create a visual PowerPoint with notes to present to the 5 hospital chain and clinics. Focus on time managment skills and productivity principles.
